Evergreen Compounding Pharmacy is an independent compounding pharmacy that has been operating since the mid 70's. Originally there was a post office, a liquor store and the pharmacy all in one. But times have changed. We partnered with Shopko Pharmacy to handle our commercial prescriptions in September of 2016 and now focus only on compounded medications. In addition we just moved to our new location at 2640 Hwy 2 E. Our new home will offer a drive up window eventually and our parking is less congested than our previous location and is easy to get in and out.
Pharmacy compounding is the art and science of preparing customize medications for patients. It's practice dates back to the origins of pharmacy; yet, compounding's presence has changed over the years. In the 1930's and 1940's, approximately 60 percent of all medications were compounded. With the advent of drug manufacturing in the 1950's and 1960's. compounding rapidly declined. The pharmacist's role as a preparer of medications quickly changed to that of a dispenser of manufactured dosage forms.
Within the last two decades, though, compounding has experienced a resurgence as modern technology and innovative techniques and research have allowed more pharmacists to customize medications to meet specific patient needs.
There are several reasons why pharmacists compound prescription medications. The most importance one is what the medical community calls "patient non-compliance". Many patients are allergic to preservatives or dyes, or are sensitive to standard drug strengths. With a physician's consent, a compounding pharacist can change the srength of a medication, alter its form to make it easier for the patient to ingest, or add flavor to make it more palatable. The pharmacist also can prepare the medication using several unique delivery systems, such as sublingual troche or lozenge, a lollipop, or a transdermal gel or cream that can be absorbed through the skin. For those patients who are having a hard time swallowing a capsule, a commpounding pharmacist can make a liquid suspension instead.
As a professional compounding pharmacy we can provide medicines tailored to the patient's specific needs and prepared to the doctor's exact specifications.
We are located in the Evergreen area of Kalispell, Montana. In addition to our local community, we take pride in serving a national clientele. A pharmacy should be more than a dispensary. At Evergreen Compounding Pharmacy we consider ourselves a community partner, a resource for products and information, and a source for products designed to support maximum health.
Because we ship nationally, the three most important things for our business aren't "location, location, location" but "service, service, service!" We believe it is the service we provide that separates us from our competition. It has earned us the respect of our customers and it is, in essence, the reason they keep coming back month after month, year after year.
